I was raised in a city on the St. Mary’s River that connects Lake Huron and Lake Superior, and on an island off the north shore of Lake Huron, so water has always been and always will be of importance to me. After taking journalism and honours English at Carleton University in Ottawa, I ran away to Alaska and then the Yukon, had a “road to Mayo” conversion in 1982, (read about that here), leaped by faith into Briercrest Bible College with my husband in 1985 and landed in the “promised land” of central Alberta in 1988.

Squirreled away in the attic of my parents’ house, I began writing short stories for my dolls when I was very young. They didn’t complain so I kept writing. Then I went off to school, where some wonderful teachers encouraged me. I published my first piece of writing in grade ten under the watchful eye of a rather unorthodox nun.

But in my last year of high school another teacher managed to stop me from writing for a while, when she said: “If you have nothing of significance to say, don’t you dare write!”

Would that have stopped you from writing? It stopped me, so I decided I had to go out and find some significant things.

That led me to travel and to experience life’s ups and downs across this broad and beautiful country of Canada. I’ve explored almost every province, including the territories, lived in four of them. Been to Europe and Israel a couple of times, but, though I now live in central Alberta, my heart is split between the wilderness of the Yukon and the jungles of Papua New Guinea. Maybe that’s why much of my writing is steeped in winter, with the odd palm tree thrown in.

I am captivated by the lure of large bodies of water and mountain vistas. My heart pounds with the rhythm of a galloping horse, flies with the frenzy of a hummingbird, whirs with the mystery of a dragonfly.

I currently have two contemporary novels for adults, and four fantasy novels for middle-grade readers, as well as a few devotional books, all published and available on Amazon. Just click the Books tab above to have a look.

I write to reveal the glory of God in this world and in my life. The Lord has abundantly blessed, challenged, rebuked, healed and restored me through the process of writing and being involved with writers.

I am honored to have served on the executive of Inscribe Christian Writers’ Fellowship, been a long-time member of The Word Guild and American Christian Fiction Writers, and been privileged to teach for some of these groups.

I am also a sought-after speaker for women’s retreats and one-day events. I have spoken widely for RSVP Ministries (Stonecroft). Please click the Speaking, Teaching tabs above for available dates and topics.

The fodder for my writing and speaking ministries has come from the places I have lived, the people I have known and from being a pastor’s wife for over 30 years while raising three dynamic creative daughters.
